Spike tires vs Regulars - visual representation

Took this pic from the trail, showcasing the difference between a spike tire, and a normal tire - regarding the grip on ice.

So here is the deal; im riding on compact ice, on my front wheel is my spike tire (Schwable Ice Spiker), on my rear is the normal tire (Maxxis Swampthing). The spiketire sticks to the ice (green arrows), whereas the normal tire strives to keep on track, you can actually see it slide away from me by looking at the tire-pattern on the ice (red arrows).

  1. I'm totally pro spiketires but your picture doesn't take into account that more weight is on the rear tire than the front tire.

    I like the blog :)

  2. Good point. None the less the result was rear wheel sliding compared to front wheel. Glad I have the spike pro on front AND rear this year. : )
